Thursday, September 17, 2020, might not feel special to you, but for the Central McLean Cougars it was. It marked the last matchup between the two school schools of Underwood and Turtle Lake Mercer-McClusky for any sport. That Thursday night ended the long-lasting rivalry that was in the middle of McLean County. Underwood won in four sets, but the energy in the gym felt like it was the fifth all game. “It brought a certain energy to the court. I know our girls here in Underwood played at a higher level when we played Turtle Lake.” said coach Jordyn Singer on the Underwood, Turtle Lake-Mercer-McClusky rivalry. Even though the rivalry has ended, there is a very bright future for the Cougars. “I think the co-op is good,” Singer says, “it’ll bring more competition between the players, and they will realize that it takes a lot of dedication and hard work to be on a volleyball team.”
